Firm Files Suit for Critically Acclaimed Hip Hop Artist Madlib
October 31, 2024 – Firm attorney David Given today filed a complaint for world-renowned music producer and recording artist Otis Jackson Jr., professionally known as Madlib. The complaint seeks to dissolve two California limited liability companies—Madicine Show LLC and Rapp Cats LLC—and alleges mismanagement, self-dealing, and breach of fiduciary duty by their managing member (and Madlib's former personal manager), Eothen Alapatt, also known as Egon. The complaint alleges that Egon has “refused to effect an orderly wind up” of these two entities, while also failing to provide transparency regarding financial dealings and Madlib's intellectual property rights. The lawsuit seeks a judicially supervised dissolution of both entities, an accounting of their finances, and a judicial declaration confirming Madlib’s exclusive ownership of his recorded music and the trademarks for “Madlib Invazion” as well as for the famed Quasimoto character. Further proceedings in the matter are pending.
