Firm lawyer to join UC Law SF faculty, teach legal research and writing
June 2024 – The firm is pleased to announce that firm lawyer Kyle P. O’Malley accepted an appointment as an adjunct professor at UC Law SF (formerly UC Hastings). Kyle will teach Legal Research and Writing (LRW), a foundational course required for all first-year students, starting in the fall semester of 2024.
LRW is designed to equip students with essential skills for client-centered legal analysis and effective communication. The course curriculum includes critical analysis of legal cases, legal research techniques, drafting legal documents, and mastering legal citation and writing styles. Students will also explore the role of attorneys as investigators and fact researchers, emphasizing the importance of ethical and thorough legal practice.
Kyle brings a wealth of experience to his new role. His trial and appellate practice focuses on employment, civil rights, consumer, privacy, commercial, and intellectual property law. His notable accomplishments include securing a landmark unanimous opinion from the California Supreme Court in Raines v. US Healthworks Medical Group, which advanced protections against employment discrimination under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act.
"I am honored to join UC Law SF and contribute to the development of the next generation of legal scholars and practitioners," he said. "Teaching LRW allows me to share my passion for justice and advocacy while preparing students to navigate the complexities of legal practice with integrity and clarity."
Kyle holds a deep commitment to community service, including his current role on the California Lawyers Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. He has previously served as a Commissioner on the Oakland Mayor’s Commission on Persons with Disabilities and maintains active involvement with the Telluride Association, an organization dedicated to fostering critical thinking through free and inclusive educational experiences for promising young students.
