Paralegal talks Guide Dogs for the Blind on CBS
Paralegal Rachel Howard appeared on CBS Bay Area to discuss the profound impact that Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) has had on her life. Rachel was matched with her first guide dog, Scooter, a male yellow Labrador, prior to starting her senior year of college. The two have been working together ever since, graduating from college and taking on life in San Francisco.
Guide Dogs for the Blind’s mission relies on dedicated volunteers, staff, and donors. Puppies are raised for the first year of their lives by community volunteers who teach them proper socialization, obedience, and house behaviors, preparing them for the advanced training and maturity required for guide work. Motivated by Rachel’s experiences with Scooter, attorney and animal lover Nina Pouget has also become involved in the GDB mission as a volunteer puppy raiser. Nina is currently raising Osha, a female black Labrador, with the hope that Osha will one day follow in Scooter’s footsteps to help someone who is blind or visually impaired navigate the world with greater confidence and independence.
